Michael O’Neill

Michael is the founder of O’Neill Law, a modern boutique law firm focused on matters of business, intellectual property and technology for innovators, entrepreneurs, and growth-oriented companies.

Michael is a native of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Michael returned home to Cape Cod in 2026 after many years away, recognizing both the unique quality of life Cape Cod offers his family and the opportunity to build a law practice aligned with his vision.

Prior to founding O’Neill Law, Michael practiced at a respected intellectual property law firm based in North Carolina for more than thirteen years. His practice there focused primarily on patent preparation and prosecution across a broad range of advanced technologies. Michael has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications related to semiconductors, quantum computing, fiber optics, software architecture, and other complex technologies.

Michael has embraced the practice of law and believes it requires a continual commitment to learning, refinement, and the thoughtful application of legal knowledge to each client's unique circumstances.

Outside the practice of law, Michael values spending his most limited and valuable resource — time — intentionally. He tries to take advantage of the outdoors whenever possible through activities such as boating, golfing, skiing and running. Above all, Michael values time spent with his wife and children, appreciating the milestones, experiences, and everyday moments that make for a life well-lived.
